What is involved in a typical session?

Acupuncture offers health care that is centered around you as an individual. For that reason, we will ask a number of questions at your first visit, which allow us to tailor a treatment plan for your specific needs and goals.

During your first acupuncture session the practitioner will take a full case history including past health background and details about your current condition. Once you are settled on the treatment couch, your practitioner will check your pulse on each wrist and look at your tongue.

Your practitioner will then make a diagnosis and put together a treatment plan, which may include lifestyle and dietary advice as well as acupuncture.

As well as using fine needles on acupuncture points, we might also use other techniques, including:
• cupping: small glass cups are placed on the skin to help stimulate local blood flow
• moxibustion: a therapeutic herb – moxa – is used to warm muscles and help you relax
• massage reflex points

Most people find Chinese Medicine treatments relaxing and often feel very calm after a treatment.
